Warning: Get the little ones out of the room before you watch this or wait until they’re asleep – there is nothing in here you want them seeing or repeating to their grandparents later.
This summer, if you can’t make it to the beach, settle into the theater and watch beach adventures as you’ve never seen them with Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson and “High School Musical” star, Zac Efron.
Based upon the 1990s TV show of the same name, Baywatch takes a look inside an elite team of lifeguards on a popular beach. Mitch Buchannon (Johnson) clashes with Matt Brody (Efron), an overly confident new recruit to the Baywatch team. Together, they have to take down organized crime on the beach to save it and the community.

(L-R) Jon Bass plays Ronnie, Alex Daddario plays Summer, Zac Efron plays Matt Brody, Dwayne Johnson plays Mitch Buchannon, Kelly Rohrbach plays CJ Parker, and Ilfenesh Hadera plays Stephanie Holden in BAYWATCH; the film by Paramount Pictures
It might seem trite to take an old TV show and turn it into a movie, especially a buddy comedy with the seasoned, gruff veteran and the young, cocky newcomer, but this red band trailer shows that the formula isn’t broken. As they say, if it isn’t broke, don’t fix it!
When Zac Effron came on the scene years ago, I had written him off as a pop-star, cookie-cutter, teen idol that wouldn’t make it past his 20s in Hollywood. Now, I’ve eaten those assumptions as I’ve seen him bring his A game to the screen with good comedic timing and acting prowess in general. Whether it be a serious drama like “Charlie St. Cloud” or a raunchy college romp like “Neighbors”, he’s genuinely talented young man and he’s not hard on the eyes, so that’s always a plus.
It’s a lot like what Dwayne Johnson was able to accomplish when people eschewed a World Wrestling Federation entertainer could be a blockbuster actor with range and depth. Now look at him – he’s dominated both large and small screen with ease.
This summer, get “rocked” and get “eff’d” with Johnson and Efron (get it?) and enjoy some genuine laughs because, if the red band trailer is any indication, the laughter is going to give you an amazing ab workout: just in time for swimsuit season!
