Let’s make something perfectly clear. HORRIBLE BOSSES 2 is a comedy. It’s meant to be laughed with and laughed at. You’ll read plenty of reviews that will slice it and shred it, which is simply a reminder that the Critic is really overthinking things here.
I’m not going to tell you it’s my favorite comedy of all time or anything. It’s fun and it is what it is — a mindless adventure to the movies for a few great laughs.
HORRIBLE BOSSES 2 has some of my favorite stars there are in Jason Bateman, Jennifer Aniston, Jason Sudeikis and Charlie Day. And they are truly funny in their roles, delivering raunchy, shocking lines; stumbling through physical comedy; and bumbling through twists in the story that remind you their characters aren’t the brightest bulbs in the lighting aisle.
Admittedly, the schtick between the “three boys” (as Jennifer Aniston and I called them) goes a bit over the top at times. Nonetheless, there are side-splitting moments to make up for it. Sudeikis, Day and Bateman are true buddies off-screen and that comes through in their chemistry.
Jennifer Aniston’s return as Dr. Julia Harris is wonderfully shocking. And that’s exactly how Jennifer thinks that character should be! She’ll leave you saying “Wow” for a few different reasons!
Go have some fun. Don’t overthink it. And, as Jason Bateman said, “Don’t take your kids.”
