Allow me to introduce myself as something a little different than you may expect.
Hi, I’m Scott Carty. And I lost my sister to suicide.
Be honest. What was your first reaction to that? Did you wince? Did you feel sorry for me? Did you just want to move on to a different topic? Whatever your reaction was, I get it. And I appreciate it. The fact of the matter is, suicide is not a thrilling topic to bring up. And it’s tough for many people to even talk about.
That “talk about” part is what needs to change. So, let’s get started.
Last night, I attended the Forefront Celebration and Fundraiser in Seattle. Forefront is “bringing big-picture change to suicide prevention” through legislation, training and awareness. They’re really leading the way, nationally, through their efforts in the state of Washington.
On October 11th, I will repost something to my Facebook page that may help tie this all together for you. It’s a post I wrote last year and several people have told me it deserves to be repeated.
Until then, please visit the Forefront website at intheforefront.org. You can also call them at (206) 543-1016. They’re even on Facebook.
